People gather in Dublin in show of solidarity for Syrian refugees

People gathered at the Famine Memorial in Dublin, Ireland to urge the Irish government to take in more Syrian refugees. The group Uplift organised the event as a national day of action, with people gathering at famine memorials across Ireland.

Taxi drivers force way into regulator's office for sit-in

Three members of the Irish Taxi Council are staging a sit-in protest at the office of the Taxi Regulator in Dublin.

Around 40 other taxi drivers are also involved in a demonstration outside the office on Fitzwilliam Square.

A spokesperson for the Taxi Regulator says a small group of drivers forced their way in the building this afternoon.

GardaĆ­ are at the scene monitoring the situation.
