World Press Photo 2013

So another year has passed, that means another World Press Photo list of winners from the previous years collection of the worlds press photographers / photo journalists.

The competition started in 1956, I've came across it in 1999 and every year never fails to amaze in the quality and variation of photographs, but of course given that its awards for Press photographs, much of the content is made up of war and disaster, and although sad and heart breaking, always amazing work. It always get an astonishing amount of entries and amazing as they all are it cant be an easy task for the judges to get it down to the winners.

Below is the overall winner, taken in Gaza City. The bodies of two-year-old Suhaib Hijazi and his elder brother Muhammad, almost four, are carried by their uncles to a mosque for their funeral, in Gaza City.

World Press Photo of the Year, Spot News, 1st prize singles, Paul Hansen

There was some controversy with the winning photograph, with some photographers complaining that it was edited to much and was no longer a real photograph. I don't agree, its a photograph well worthy of being the overall winner.
